Location: Newburyport, MA

Overview

We are seeking a hands-on Quality Engineer to support aerospace manufacturing operations involving precision machining and complex component production. The ideal candidate is experienced in high-value, engineered products and thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with a focus on process control, continuous improvement, and quality excellence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Drive measurable quality improvements in both product and process performance.

  • Perform and lead First Article Inspections (FAIRs) for aerospace and defense products, ensuring full compliance with AS9102 standards and strong application of GD&T .

  • Conduct inspection and testing of raw materials, in-process components, and finished products to meet quality specifications.

  • Develop, validate, and implement test and inspection methods for new and existing products.

  • Collaborate across engineering, production, and operations to establish and maintain effective quality and process controls .

  • Ensure the Quality Management System (QMS) complies with customer, internal, industry, and regulatory standards ( AS9100, ISO 9001, ISO 13485).

  • Support shop floor teams in defect prevention and continuous improvement initiatives using data-driven approaches.

  • Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) within a closed-loop quality process.

  • Drive Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) activities, including PFMEA, control plans, SPC , and related tools to support production readiness and defect prevention.

  • Oversee product and process verifications (FAIs, audits, validations) throughout the value stream to prevent nonconformities and ensure product quality.

Qualifications
  • 6+ years of experience as a Quality Engineer in aerospace, defense, or precision manufacturing .

  • Strong working knowledge of Root Cause Analysis, Statistical Process Control (SPC), and data analysis methods.

  • Proven experience with First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs) and Corrective Action processes .

  • Solid understanding of ISO 9001, AS9100, AS9102 quality systems, manufacturing processes, and documentation controls (BOMs, work instructions, consumable and tool management).

  • Experience with APQP/AS9145 tools such as PPAP, DFMEA, PFMEA, control plans, and key characteristics management .

  • Proficiency in interpreting engineering blueprints and applying Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) .

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.

Nice to Have
  • Experience using Epicor ERP for production management and Discrepant Material Reports (DMRs) .

  • Background in machining, precision manufacturing, or complex assembly environments .
