Requirements:

Employment in this position is contingent upon a satisfactory criminal history check (fingerprint-based) in accordance with Chapter 435, Florida Statutes.

LEVEL 2 BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION / FINGERPRINTS REQUIRED

Occasional travel required. Travel may vary based on scheduled activities (reviews, workshops, conferences, technical assistance, etc.).

Must be approved by FDLE/FBI to access Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) information and must be able to obtain CJIS level 4 certification.

Office hours are from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, Monday through Friday.

This position is not eligible for full-time or part-time telework/remote work.

Required Experience:

Five (5) relevant years of experience in public administration, business administration, accounting, finance, information technology or closely related field and two (2) years of experience in internal or external auditing. OR

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in public administration, business administration, accounting, finance, information technology or closely related field and two (2) years of experience in internal or external auditing.

A master’s degree from an accredited college or university can substitute for one (1) year of the required experience.

NOTE: This position may require travel throughout Florida, so possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Two (2) years of experience in an Inspector’s General office, an Internal Audit office, or an External Audit office.

Preference will be given to candidates who possess one or more of the following highly desirable certifications that include:

• Certified Inspector General Auditor (CIGA),
• Certified Internal Auditor (CIA),
• Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA),
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA),
• Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE),
• Other highly desirable knowledge, skills, abilities, and credentials relevant to this position.

Overview:

Work at FWC is cross-functional meaning duties may cross division/office lines. The Commission expects employees to function across FWC’s organizational structure by providing their skills and expertise wherever needed through work on teams or as directed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

This is a senior auditor position in the Office of Inspector General (OIG). The position is responsible for leading performance audits, financial/compliance audits, information technology (IT) audits and other management reviews, as required in accordance with Section 20.055, Florida Statutes, Government Auditing Standards (Yellow Book) and the Principles and Standards for Offices of Inspector General (Green Book).

This role supports the OIG’s mission to detect and prevent fraud, waste, abuse, and mismanagement, while promoting transparency, accountability, and efficiency across the agency.

Duties include, but not limited to:

Evaluates the adequacy of internal controls and compliance with policies and procedures by planning the audit or review, designing the audit program, obtaining a thorough understanding of processes, and performing fieldwork.

• Prepare working papers, which record and summarize data on the assigned audit segment, in accordance with government auditing standards.
• Drafts and finalizes audit reports to communicate observations, issues, risks, and recommendations, ensuring all audit findings, exceptions, and/or proposed adjustments in the audit report are adequately explained in a clear and concise manner.
• Performs follow-up audits to appraise the adequacy of the auditee’s corrective action taken to improve audit deficiencies.
• Participate in confidential activities which may require access to confidential personnel information, and labor relations functions.
• Provide assistance to investigative staff regarding investigations as necessary
• Completes required continuing professional education training.
• Perform other duties, including various administrative duties, as assigned by management.

• Ability to effectively interview individuals and organize the information obtained to reflect the logical progression of procedures performed and conclusions reached.
