Job Description

This will be a six-month contract with the potential of a permanent position at the end. You will need to be and will be based in Austin, or commutable to downtown. This position will be in-office 1-2 days/week but this may be subject to change so you must be comfortable with a hybrid role.

The Grant Writer is responsible for researching, writing, and submitting grant proposals to secure funding from federal, state, local government agencies, foundations, corporations, and other funding sources. This role plays a vital part in supporting the mission of the State Government Agency by identifying funding opportunities that align with agency programs, ensuring timely and accurate grant submissions, and assisting in post-award reporting and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research and identify grant funding opportunities aligned with the agency’s goals and objectives.
  • Develop, write, and submit clear, compelling, and complete grant proposals to various funding sources.
  • Collaborate with program staff and leadership to gather information needed for grant applications, including budgets, program descriptions, and supporting documentation.
  • Ensure all grant applications comply with funder guidelines and agency policies.
  • Maintain a calendar of grant deadlines, reporting requirements, and renewals.
  • Assist in the preparation of grant budgets and budget narratives.
  • Track grant application status, awards, and reporting deadlines, coordinating preparation of progress and final reports as required.
  • Serve as a liaison between the agency and funding entities during the grant application and award process.
  • Monitor and report on grant-related activities to agency leadership.
  • Maintain organized records of grant applications, awards, and correspondence.
  • Support grant compliance monitoring in collaboration with program and finance staff.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities related to grant writing and funding trends.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Public Administration, Business, or related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in grant writing, preferably in a government or nonprofit setting.
  • Strong research, writing, and communication skills with the ability to produce polished, persuasive proposals.
  • Knowledge of grant application processes, funding sources, and reporting requirements.
  • Proficiency in budgeting related to grants and financial reporting.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines with strong organizational skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to handle confidential information with integrity.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Experience with grant management software or databases is a plus.

Preferred

  • Experience working with federal and state grant programs.
  • Knowledge of government regulations and compliance related to grants.
  • Certified Grant Writer or related certification is a plus.
